‘DO SPEAK WITH YOUR MOUTH FULL’ is a new queer series by performance Ria João (@ria.joao.art) and chef Irene Pomatto (@irene_pomatto), where each gathering is part feast, part performance, part gallery, and part conversation around themes that matter deeply in these strange, tender times.
For our very first edition, we invite you to explore the theme: Food Discrimination. We’ve been listening to stories. Cooking up questions. Gathering research and lived experiences to plate a menu and a performance that speak of shame and joy, hunger and hierarchy, inheritance and insult. From so-called “poor people’s food” to dishes tangled in stories of segregation (did you know that some Italians thought tomatoes were the food of the devil?), we ask: what do we swallow in silence? And what are we ready to spit back out?
Aconchego House is a space built on care, inclusion, and community. We hope that by coming together around our own experiences of discrimination, we can also grow our understanding and compassion for other kinds of oppression — even those that don’t affect us directly. Brunch, in itself, carries symbolic weight — its history is rooted in rebellion against rigid norms and in creating space for leisure and self-expression. It has become “a social ritual, (…) a platform for self-expression and identity construction,” encouraging conversation, pleasure, and exchange (via “The evolving gastronomy of leisure: A socio-cultural and economic examination of brunch”, n.d.)

The space will host a small, curated visual art experience on the theme—meant to be wandered through with a cup in hand, wide eyes, heart open.
This project is fueled by research, storytelling, and conversations—your stories, our stories, the ones we’ve inherited, tasted, and tried to unlearn. Each theme comes from deep enquiry. Each gathering is a living archive of resistance, ritual, and delight. Our menu was created based on the ideas we have been gathering on the topic, where every dish is an invitation to reflect but - also very important! - to connect with the pleasure of every bite! We have chosen healthy options that we hope will accommodate different dietary restrictions. Drinks (alcoholic, non-alcoholic, cocktails and coffees) will be available at the bar.
